Privacy Policy

Account information. Your email address (used to identify your account and sign you in), the display name you set, and — only if you choose to add one when inviting someone to your Circle — a phone number.

Gift information. When you create a Gift: the recipient's name, the occasion, an optional message, an optional reveal date, and whether it's associated with your Circle.

Circle information. Who you've connected with on Otam.

Contributions. Shout Out text, voice recordings, and video recordings submitted to a Gift, along with the display name the contributor typed in (guests are not required to create an account or give their real name — see “Guest contributions” below).

Reports. If you report a Gift or a specific message, we store the reason you selected and any note you add. We do not collect or store who filed the report.

Technical information. Standard server and error logs generated by operating the service (for example, to diagnose a failed upload). Otam does not use any analytics or tracking service, and does not collect device or browser information beyond what a request to our servers necessarily includes.

To operate the core Gift experience: signing you in, creating and managing Gifts, collecting and storing contributions, letting you (the creator) review contributions before anyone else sees them, and delivering the finished Gift to its recipient.

To handle safety reports and respond to abuse.

To keep the service reliable and secure — for example, detecting and stopping abuse of contribution or Reveal links.

Anyone with a contribution link can leave a voice note, video, or Shout Out without creating an Otam account. We only collect the display name they type in and the content of their message — nothing else is required. If they happen to already be signed in to Otam when they contribute, we privately link the contribution to their account internally; this is never shown to the Gift creator or the recipient, who only ever see the display name the contributor typed.

Gifts, Circles, and contributions are not public. There is no public directory or search of Gifts, and Otam does not expose a count of your Circle members, followers, likes, or views to anyone. Access to a Gift's contribution page or its revealed content depends on possessing a specific, unguessable link (see “Sharing links” below) or being signed in as its creator.

Recordings are stored in private cloud storage that is not publicly accessible. When a recipient views a revealed Gift, media is served through short-lived, individually generated access links rather than a permanent public URL. Contributions remain part of a Gift for as long as that Gift exists; see “Data retention and deletion” for what happens if the Gift's creator deletes their account.

Otam's separate, older “Gist” feature (short voice/video posts sent within a Circle) works differently: a Gist and its media are automatically deleted 48 hours after it's sent, unless the recipient explicitly saves it, in which case it is kept.

A Gift's contribution link and its Reveal link are private, capability-bearing links — similar to an unlisted document link. Anyone who has the contribution link can submit a message to that Gift; anyone who has the Reveal link can view the finished Gift once it's ready. Share these links only with people you trust with that access, and use the “regenerate link” option available to the Gift's creator if a link is ever shared more widely than you intended.

Every contribution is reviewed by the Gift's creator before it can appear in the Reveal — a recipient only ever sees content the creator has approved. This review is done by the creator personally; Otam does not use automated or AI moderation.

A recipient viewing a Reveal can report the Gift, or an individual approved message, without needing an account. Reports are stored for our team to review and are not visible to the Gift's creator or to anyone else using the product.

You can delete your account at any time from your Circle page. Deleting your account:

• Permanently disables your ability to sign in.
• Removes your personal profile information (display name and, if you'd set one, phone number) from your account record.
• Cancels any pending Circle invites you sent and any active sign-in recovery links.
• Removes your push-notification subscriptions.
• Removes your own memberships in other people's Circles.
• Archives any Gift you created that had not yet been revealed — it stops accepting new contributions and can no longer be revealed.
• Preserves any Gift you created that had already been revealed to its recipient, so the recipient keeps the keepsake they were given — but it stops accepting new contributions.
• If you contributed to someone else's Gift while signed in, your message stays part of that Gift (so the Gift you contributed to is unaffected), but is no longer linked to your account.
• Does not automatically delete safety reports connected to your account or your Gifts. Open cases remain available while they are active; closed cases are retained only while an operational, safety, dispute, or legal-hold need remains, subject to periodic review.

We don't currently promise a specific timeline for underlying backup or log data to fully age out after deletion — deletion removes your data from the live product immediately, in the ways described above.
